Still, an exhibition selected from the TarraWarra Museum of Art collection by Director Maudie Palmer, was the third and final exhibition held at the Metropolitan Meat Market by TWMA. The exhibition focused mostly on large-scale paintings that can be defined as belonging to the ‘still life’ genre.
The works ranged from the traditional 1962 Still Life by Margaret Olley to Rosalie Gascoigne’s ironic Promised Land from the 1980s. The exhibition also included ‘still lifes’ structured in accordance with modernist imperatives, which were at times, as far as the artists were concerned, in no way informed by the traditional genre. The exhibition included works by artists including Guy Stuart; Dale Hickey; John Brack; Tim Storrier; Charles Blackman and Brett Whiteley.
