Tim Storrier is an Australian artist whose practice fervently remains outside of categorisation. Storrier works as a dedicated realist painter whose involvement with his recurring subject-matter has allowed his practice and technique to develop in a comprehensive manner. Though Storrier does not saturate his works with overt symbolism or philosophical drama, his world remains as menacing during the night as it is during the day, and the light and land as unforgiving. In the paintings from the 1970s the sun throws a harsh and unyielding light on the landscape. It is the bright light of arid Summers, the land bleached under a searing sun allowing no escape into the shade. In Storrier’s more recent works the artist has created dramatic scenes of fire and a spectrum of colours from nightfall. These later works solidify Storrier’s position in contemporary art practice in Australia and demonstrate a mastery of technique.
