Connect and create at Rhythms of the Handmade with Arts Projects Australia studio artists.

Join us for artist-led talks, live artist demonstrations and family-friendly making activities.

This exciting fun-filled day will be held at TarraWarra Museum of Art in partnership with Arts Project Australia (APA), celebrating the opening of the Museum’s new Eva and Marc Besen Centre and the final days of our current exhibition, Intimate Imaginaries, curated by Anthony Fitzpatrick.

All ages and abilities are welcome.

SCHEDULE: 

11 am–1 pm: Costume Life Drawing 

1–2 pm: Live Ceramics Demonstration 

2–4 pm: Soft Sculpture Sew-Along 

2.30–3.30 pm: THE COP SHOP – Behind the scenes

Sharpen your pencils for a Cathy Staughton inspired life drawing sketching session. Cathy will style and art direct a scene from her dreams for you to drop in and draw at your leisure. All materials provided.

Observe artmaking up close as artists Alan Constable, Lisa Reid, and Georgia Szmerling create with clay in this live ceramics demonstration. Projected larger than life-size onto surrounding screens, this demonstration will be accompanied by an artist talk and slide show facilitated by APA ceramics specialist Marcel Cooper.

Join artists Bronwyn Hack, Mark Smith, and Terry Williams for a soft sculpture sew-along inspired by their textile work in the exhibition Intimate Imaginaries. This is a non-instructional sewing session where you are invited to be inspired by the ingenuity of the APA artists to tap into your own creativity.

Enjoy a screening of supernatural police drama THE COP SHOP, followed by firsthand insights into the making of this video work with the artist and director Chris O’Brien. Intimate Imaginaries curator Anthony Fitzpatrick will facilitate a panel discussion with O’Brien and a selection of his co-stars and collaborators.

Intimate Imaginaries is a vibrant exhibition featuring 13 contemporary artists from the nationally and internationally renowned studio of Arts Project Australia.

The artists participating in Intimate Imaginaries are Fulli Andrinopoulos, Samraing Chea, Alan Constable, Wendy Dawson, Bronwyn Hack, Julian Martin, Chris O’Brien, Lisa Reid, Anthony Romagnano, Mark Smith, Cathy Staughton, Georgia Szmerling and Terry Williams.

Intimate Imaginaries is presented by TarraWarra Museum of Art in partnership with Arts Project Australia. Curated by Anthony Fitzpatrick. Access to the exhibition is included in your ticket on 8 March.

On Tuesday 4 March 2025, the Museum will open its doors to a major new building, the Eva and Marc Besen Centre. A unique and breathtaking architectural concept designed by Kerstin Thompson Architects will include the visible storage of over 300 artworks from the Museum’s collection, a learning centre and a performance space.
