Drawing on Thursdays
Take time out for Drawing on Thursday afternoons at TarraWarra Museum of Art in February. You’ll explore drawing techniques, taking inspiration from the exhibition Brent Harris: Surrender & Catch.

Thurs 1 Feb: AUTOMATIC DRAWING
Explore the unexpected in this calm and mindful automatic drawing workshop. You will be guided through a series of exercises designed to unlock the unconscious and encourage imaginative mark-making. Learn to draw using non-traditional methods in a free and expressive manner. Suitable for first time drawers or artists wishing to explore the unexpected within their own practice.
Celebrate Brent Harris’ use of dynamic line within his artworks. You will explore and extend upon traditional drawing methods through a a series of exercises designed to encourage individual creative expression and apply these principles within surrealist, abstract or realistic works. Whether you are new to drawing and lack confidence or have some experience and wish to explore something different within your own practice, you will enjoy this relaxed and fun session.
Thursday 15 Feb: SPATIAL DRAWING
Join local artist Margaret McLaughlin to explore the importance of space in art making. You will draw inspiration from Brent Harris: Surrender & Catch and focus on works such as the Swamp series and the Harris’ use of positive and negative space used throughout the exhibition. Learn how to simplify or exaggerate your drawings using a fluid line and how to create compelling uncluttered compositions and vibrant colour fields in this relaxing workshop suitable for first time drawers or practicing artists.
Cost: $25 per adult ($20 Members)
This workshop is one of three drawing workshops inspired by the exhibition Brent Harris: Surrender & Catch, curated by Maria Zagala and co-presented with the Art Gallery of South Australia.
