Thought Patterns:
Selected Works from the Collection
Thought Patterns features a broad selection of works from the TarraWarra Museum of Art collection. The exhibition has been curated to accompany Tracey Moffatt: Body Remembers, which presents a major photographic series and video from My Horizon, the artist’s widely-acclaimed exhibition commissioned for the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017.
Thought Patterns takes its cue from a chart featured in the My Horizon publication which outlines the intriguing constellation of influences, ideas, memories and phenomena that informed the development of her photographic series Body Remembers. Drawing on the Museum’s significant holdings of Australian art, Thought Patterns includes works by Russell Drysdale, Rosalie Gascoigne, Aida Tomescu, William Delafield Cook, Louise Hearman, Charles Blackman, Judy Watson and many others. These works set the scene for encountering Body Remembers by evoking and alluding to a number of the concerns, moods, textures, light and shade, and compositional elements present in Moffatt’s series, such as the ruin, the desert, harsh sunlight and long shadows.
